{"id":110314,"date":"2001-02-01T13:55:09","date_gmt":"2001-02-01T13:55:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.interpares.ca\/?p=110314"},"modified":"2026-03-02T14:00:56","modified_gmt":"2026-03-02T14:00:56","slug":"les-entreprises-et-la-quete-de-justice-sociale","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.interpares.ca\/fr\/les-entreprises-et-la-quete-de-justice-sociale\/","title":{"rendered":"An Honourable Commitment: Policy coherence in Canada\u2019s relations with the global South"},"content":{"rendered":"\t\t<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"110314\" class=\"elementor elementor-110314 elementor-105794\" data-elementor-post-type=\"post\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3004acd e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"3004acd\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d659d09 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"d659d09\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>This brief was part of a formal federal government consultation process, in response to then-Canadian International Development Agency\u2019s paper \u201c<em><strong>Towards a Long-term Strategy for Canada\u2019s International Assistance Program, A Framework for Consultation<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0\u00bb (CIDA, October 19, 2000).<\/p><p>As such, it <strong>contributed to discussions within and outside of government<\/strong> concerning Canada\u2019s moral and political role in the world. <strong>Specifically, the paper reflects on Canada\u2019s relationship with the nations of the \u201cglobal South\u201d<\/strong> in a concerted international project to eradicate global poverty and reduce the terrible vulnerability of the world\u2019s poor to chronic malnutrition, natural and unnatural disaster, tyranny, and civil violence.<\/p><p>The reflections in this paper <strong>emerge from Inter Pares\u2019 direct experience in international anti-poverty action<\/strong> for (at that time) over twenty-five years, and <strong>discussions with our colleagues in the global South<\/strong>, as well as our involvement in policy dialogues in Canada and Europe, including our participation at the OECD DAC\/POVNET Expert Consultation on Guidelines on Poverty Reduction in the Netherlands, in September 2000.
