OUR WORK BY COUNTRY

Burkina Faso

CONTEXT

Since 2016, Burkina Faso has faced rapidly growing insecurity.

Clashes between government forces and armed groups have intensified, with violence targeting civilians, including farmers. Food supply and agricultural livelihoods in rural Burkina Faso are jeopardized not only by armed conflict but also by climate change and gender inequality. Increased drought and lack of access to water are causing food insecurity, as are entrenched patriarchal norms. Women in rural areas face social, economic, political and environmental obstacles that compromise their rights, health and work opportunities, including their participation in farming.

Burkina Faso is known for its strong civil society that persists in mobilizing for peace and democracy.

Even in the midst of ongoing conflict, grassroots groups continue their work to give rural communities the tools to have more control over their lives and livelihoods.

OUR WORK IN BURKINA FASO

We collaborate with Inades-Formation Burkina Faso to promote gender equality and healthy, sustainable agricultural practices.

Together, we strengthen women’s political and economic power through training opportunities. For example, women farmers from various regions come together to learn about sustainable farming techniques they can implement in their own fields, boosting and diversifying their crop yields, food supply and market opportunities. While the ongoing conflict has made travel within the country difficultInades-Formation Burkina Faso continues building capacity by training local community members to become resources for their fellow farmers.
