Inter Pares promotes international social justice. Guided by feminist principles, we work in partnership with people around the world who share our understanding that poverty and injustice are rooted in structural inequalities that exist within and among nations, and among people.
We work towards healthy, safe and secure futures for all.
We support people’s struggles for self-determination and their efforts to challenge structural obstacles to change. Together, we confront injustice, implement locally identified solutions, spark innovative initiatives and support communities to occupy the political space that belongs to them.
To achieve long-term positive change, we must transform the international and national systems that create poverty and injustice. So we and our counterparts use what we learn from our work at the concrete, material level to inform policy advocacy toward systemic change.
Our values and principles
Equality
At the heart of our work lies our profound commitment to the equality of all people.
Participation
People and communities need to be central actors in creating solutions to the poverty and injustice that affects them.
Sustainability
Communities need to be self-sufficient, and environmentally and financially sound.
Solidarity
Connecting in common cause makes movements and individuals stronger, inspires action, builds resilience in the face of adversity and is key to making systemic change.
Women's leadership
We support women’s leadership, because while women occupy a central and crucial role in societies, they face systemic barriers to social, political and economic equality, and the opportunity to live full and free lives.
Our practices
Advise
We draw on fifty years of experience to offer organizational support to our counterparts.
Advocate
We advocate for improved and fairer policies.
Connect
We facilitate learning exchanges by bringing together activists who are facing the same issues.
Fundraise
We raise funds to support our counterparts internationally and in Canada.
Mobilize
We carry out public campaigns and share stories to engage and inspire Canadians.
Our focus areas

We collaborate in national and global networks to promote a just economic system—one that values human dignity, social trust and collaboration. We advocate for laws that prioritize people, the environment and climate solutions. We push for legal reform requiring Canadian corporations to respect human rights abroad. We combat tax havens and loopholes so that countries receive the revenue they’re owed.

We work with counterparts to improve access to healthy, sustainable food while protecting our planet. Together, we empower communities to govern their own food systems. We also advocate for diverse agricultural practices and local decision-making to build a food system that is both fair and environmentally sustainable.

We work with our counterparts to create conditions under which women and people of marginalized genders can thrive. Our programs support personal autonomy, political voice and the right to shape one’s own future free from pressure or control.

We collaborate with counterparts to advocate for inclusive, publicly funded healthcare systems that are culturally appropriate and accessible to all. In regions where access is limited due to conflict or governmental neglect, we help fund health services. Our counterparts also conduct research, engage the public and mobilize communities to demand their right to health.

We collaborate with counterparts to document human rights violations, provide humanitarian aid and strengthen people’s movements for accountable and democratic governance. In Canada, we connect people in solidarity with our counterparts, advocate for civil liberties and raise awareness about the crises affecting those we support.
